TASKS: | Dance test, Multi-layer painting test, Mammoth 3D work |
Yesterday was spent in Rotterdam, at Witte De With's "Speculative Realist Art Histories Symposium", but today was back in the studio
We started by doing some test shots for a dance performance based on ergonomic/biomechanical principles before carrying with more 3D and painting work.
Below, you can see the final 2 layers of the Gramsci test portrait being added. By increasing the speed of painting, the first of these layers (black) was completed in 40 minutes, and it looks like it can be even faster, as a lot of the smaller brush strokes were going a lot slower than they needed to be. The white took only 15 minutes to apply. The time can be seen at the bottom right hand corner - a picture was taken every minute.
Below is the portrait after the second layer, and when finished - so, the colour-range addition I made to the patch works, although a further improvement will be trying to control the colour-scheme a bit more tightly - the white is a bit too bright
Next week, Jeremiah Runnels will join us to work on his section of the project.
The New Fordist Organization GEMAK residency was supported by GEMAK and a Stroom PRO Kunstprojecten Grant.
