Above you can see our full day, captured at 7.5 minute intervals using a PD patch. This proved to be a relatively effective and and efficient way of documenting what happened during the day. The amount of time in which we were not in the room, we spent in the adjacent white studio, testing that the audio files produced by the New Fordist Dance software correlated with reality. The results are below, in a very Runnelsian, multi-tracked video. Although, as I realized today, this type of movement and instructions resembles nothing so much as the way in which contestants were guided around in the British, puzzle-solving, children's television series Knightmare which was a staple of my youth.
As you can see, the video is a realization of the simulation video I posted yesterday, and the movements correlate pretty well. Also, with hardly any overlaps of performers. One thing that we shall bear in mind for the next try-out, is that the starting positions of performs should be marked on the floor before the piece starts, in order to prevent confusion and mis-calculation of distances.
This was a distinct improvement on the try-out we did yesterday, primarily due to the fact that we tied our legs together with string, so that our maximum strides were 50cm in all directions.
This enabled a uniformity of movement that allowed the performance to work much better. As this version of the software has been so successful, once the other software has been completed, it will be time to move this to the next stage, incorporating turns and other motions into the instructions.
The New Fordist Organization GEMAK residency was supported by GEMAK and a Stroom PRO Kunstprojecten Grant.
