Between April and June 2013, The New Fordist Organization was artist-in-residence at the GEMAK gallery in The Hague. Over the course of their residency and exhibition, Robert Blatt, Andy Ingamells, Ana Smaragda Lemnaru, Miguel Peres dos Santos, David Pocknee, Jeremiah Runnels and Leo Svirsky created 93 new works, often with the help of audience participation. New Fordist techniques were applied to orchestral composition, painting, choreography, sculpture, performance and video.
Between the 23 April and 7 June 2013, The New Fordist Organization were artists-in-residence at GEMAK in The Hague. During the residency, new techniques were developed for the mass-production of painting, choreography, sculpture, orchestral composition, performance and video. This daily blog follows the research and development of these techniques during the residency.
The exhibition was opened on 7 June 2013 and during the opening there were live performances, music, and technical demonstrations of works by Robert Blatt, Andy Ingamells, Ana Smaragda Lemnaru and David Pocknee.
The research residency was then followed by an exhibition between 7 June and 28 June 2013, during which time the results of the residency were shown, the new artistic production techniques presented and demonstrated, and new works created in the gallery, as part of the exhibition.
An exhibition booklet was produced to help visitors to the exhibition engage with its organization's ideas and document the research done during the residency. This was later expanded into the much more comprehensive "Residency Report", which can be found below. The exhibition booklet can be read here.
At the closing (finnisage) of the exhibition, new works by Robert Blatt and David Pocknee were performed.
In September 2013, David Pocknee and Ana Smaragda Lemnaru gave a talk about the New Fordist Residency entitled "How About the New Fordist Manifesto", presenting the work accomplished as part of the GEMAK residency.
On 5 May 2014, The New Fordist Organization published its "Residency Report" which comprehensively documented all of the research done and works produced over the course of our time at GEMAK. If you are looking for a quick way in to the ideas of New Fordism, and the scope of our GEMAK project, this is a good starting point.
At the beginning of 2015, the artist organization Stroom, who was one of the main funders of our residency, invited us to put together a small exhibition of the work from our GEMAK exhiibition to display in their offices in The Hague.
The New Fordist Organization GEMAK residency was supported by GEMAK and a Stroom PRO Kunstprojecten Grant.
